Some malfunction problems are inevitable during the operation of slurry pumps. Here are several common malfunction problems of slurry pumps and their solutions.
1. Fault: The pump does not absorb water, and the pressure gauge jumps violently.
⚠️Cause:
- Insufficient priming water.
- There is air accumulated in the pump.
- The suction pipe and the pressure gauge pipe are leaking air.
🛠️Solution:
- Fill in enough priming water.
- Check the pipeline and eliminate the air leakage.
4. Fault: The flow rate is lower than the designed flow rate.
⚠️Cause:
- The impeller is blocked.
- The clearance of the seal ring is excessively worn.
- The rotational speed is insufficient.
🛠️Solution:
- Remove the blockage.
- Replace the seal ring.
- Increase the rotational speed to the specified value on the nameplate.
7. Fault: The water pump vibrates.
⚠️Cause:
- The pump shaft and the motor shaft are not concentric.
- The impeller is unbalanced.
- The bearing clearance is too large.
🛠️Solution:
- Adjust the pump and the motor to align the axes.
- The impeller should pass the balance test, and the unbalanced weight should be about 3 grams.
- Replace the bearing.
2. Fault: The vacuum gauge indicates a high vacuum, but the pump still does not absorb water.
⚠️Cause:
- The bottom valve is not opened or is seriously blocked.
- The resistance of the suction pipe is large.
- The suction height is too high.
🛠️Solution:
- Check the flexibility of the bottom valve flap and remove the blockage.
- Try to simplify the suction pipeline.
- Reduce the suction height.
5. Fault: The pump consumes excessive power.
⚠️Cause:
- The packing is pressed too tightly, and the packing chamber gets hot.
- The impeller is worn.
- The water supply volume of the pump is too large.
🛠️Solution:
- Loosen the packing gland.
- Replace the impeller.
- Close the gate valve slightly to reduce the flow rate.
8. Fault: The bearing gets hot.
⚠️Cause:
- The bearing lacks oil or the oil viscosity is too high, affecting lubrication.
- The bearing is worn and the clearance is too large.
- The pump and the motor are not concentric.
🛠️Solution:
- Add oil.
- Replace with good oil or oil with low viscosity.
- Replace the bearing.
- Adjust the pump and the motor to ensure concentricity.
3. Fault: The outlet pressure gauge indicates there is pressure, but the pump discharges very little water or no water at all.
⚠️Cause:
- The resistance of the outlet pipe is large.
- The rotation direction is wrong.
- The impeller is blocked.
- The rotational speed is insufficient.
🛠️Solution:
- Reduce the pipeline resistance.
- Check the rotation direction of the motor.
- Remove the blockage in the impeller.
- Increase the rotational speed.
6. Fault: There is an abnormal sound inside the pump, and the pump does not discharge water.
⚠️Cause:
- The resistance of the suction pipe is too large.
- The suction height is too large.
- Air enters the suction pipe.
- The temperature of the pumped liquid is too high.
🛠️Solution:
- Check whether the suction pipe is blocked.
- Clean the bottom valve, reduce the liquid temperature or lower the suction height.
9. Fault: The noise is loud.
⚠️Cause:
- The pump and the motor are not installed concentrically.
- The bearings of the pump or the motor are worn, causing jitter.
